Shimmer-scale Dragons are a very beautiful breed with small—but highly reflective—scales that shimmer and shine as the dragon moves through water. They don’t have fins or webbed feet, but their long, eel-like bodies allow them to swim quite fast. They were once rumored to carry large pearls in their claws—causing many to seek them out in search of this fabulous treasure. In reality, the “pearl” is of greater value to the dragon, for the fabled treasure is actually an egg carried by a migrating female.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Intrepid and not willing to stay under the command of her clan's founder and father, Kheifer seemed to have inherited her mother's love for adventure. Not a single dragon of her clan was able to make her stay in one place for long. She always manages to slip out of view of her guardians and slither her way to freedom. And on a certain daring adventure to an eerie cove whom she was always told never to enter, she met The Fool of April, an outcast shimmer-scale of her clan and destined life-time mate. Things did not go so well between the two during Kheifer's first few visits, for she has never met a more stubborn dragon than The Fool, who's even more stubborn than her doting father. But despite that, Kheifer repeatedly visited the cove in secret, slowly warming-up and learning more about the interesting outcast who happened to be her half-brother. Over time, special flushed feelings developed between the two and they became lovers.
