Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Its eyes glow brightly at night, and it enjoys attacking insects and small animals.
And look! It’s grown its wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. Their scales don’t grow in until right before they mature, and they have almost no strength. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are usually left alone by their mother and begin to hunt and survive on their own.

Zero is a very lazy Dragon. While she usually has the very best intentions, she tends to forget about things or fall asleep when she should have been elsewhere.

In this manner, she almost forgot to ever leave her egg; it was only when the shell started to crumble around her due to age that she realized it was time to hatch. She also forgot to reply when Kay asked her to join the Hatchling Army - which is why she now works for the Bad guys, usually serving as a bad omen to announce Schemer's arrival.

Schemer also seems to be the only one capable of making Zero remember her tasks.
